All over for another year

It's comes and it goes and now it's all over except for the clean up and paying the CC bills. LOL I think the kids had a great Christmas, they got what they asked for, plus some extras. When Linda called last night I bawled like a baby, made worse by talking to Beth and then Matt, I miss them all so much. We haven't done this before but with our decision to stay home for New Years I thought we should have a night out tonight. Last night I decided I think we'll go to Bridgewater for a movie on NYE and then come home and have some fireworks. It will be our first year staying home with the kids since the year we had Brea and the kids are looking forward to it.

We went out for a great visit

I finally made it over to visit June and Wendy, we weren't sure they would recognize me since I haven't been there for 2 months, but like I told them, I still look the same just older and tireder, is that a word? LOL

Anyway, Breanna and I stayed a couple of hours, us grown-ups chatted an caught up and Breanna snuggled with Charlie, Sam's dog. I'm shocked she didn't try and sneak out with him. Then we came home for supper, which consisted of frozen dinners for the kids and some homemade candy for Mom. LOL Yea, I'm bad. But it was sooo good! Wendy made it and I'm not sure there will be any left when Doug gets off at 8. He's working late tonight, shutting down the mill, this will be his last shift for 5 weeks, as the mill is shutting down. Sucks for us but we just hope that at the end of 5 weeks they are back to work. Luckily I'm still working so we won't starve to death, I don't think...

Textbooks

Books are a big thing in our household. I love to read and spend most of my free time in my lazy boy with a book. Breanna has also come to love time spent with a good book, so I'm always looking for great deals on books for myself and the kids. The day after

Whew, I wasn't kidding last night when I said we were having a storm, it snowed and blew and rained and blew now the sun is out but the wind is still picking up quite often. I lost count of how many times our power went off through the night. The cordless phone by my bed talks every time the power comes on and I listened to that quite a few times through the night. Thank God we didn't lose any trees but I'm sure not everyone was that lucky. We still have some snow, so if it doesn't rain we might have a bit of a white Christmas but it is still calling for rain on Christmas Eve, yuck.

So today for my day off I'm trying to get some house work done, I'm going over to visit with June and Wendy in a little bit. June has gone out to get her hair done so I'm waiting till she should be home. Breanna and I'll go over for awhile, then I have to try and remember to stop and get Mom's mail, which I haven't done in forever, then close her PO Box, come home and do some more housework. I still need to go up to my in-laws and wrap but Doug might have to do that tomorrow night, he has to work late tonight and I work tomorrow night, there's not much to do though so I think he can handle it. If not, we'll get it done when we're up there when I get off work on Christmas Eve. We close at 4 so I'll be up there shortly after that. Lots of people think it sucks that we work Christmas Eve but it doesn't bother me at all, everyone on staff works, we take turns on cash, we laugh, carry on, eat and just have lots of fun, there's no way you can be in a bad mood.

Speaking of moods, I'm doing pretty good, the other night I had a good cry when I was talking to my Aunt Barb. Certain Christmas songs can make me cry, when I think about not having any family here at all this Christmas I get kinda sad but who wouldn't. It's going to be very different this year from last, when all plans were made around Mom. Just different...

A snow Sunday!

Good evening folks! Welcome to a snowy Sunday evening in Nova Scotia! I worked all weekend and since it's the last weekend before Christmas it's been a busy one at work. Today was very busy the first few hours since it was calling for a storm tonight. Now it's snowing and blowing like crazy but it's supposed to change to rain toward morning, uckk. I'd rather just have a big old snow storm that stays for Christmas. It's also calling for rain on Christmas Eve, which I hate. We haven't had a white Christmas in so long. I'm hoping that Mom can send us some snow this year.

Lovin some time off

I'm off work this week and loving every minute of it. After my terrible vacation 6 weeks ago when I lost Mom, my boss wanted me to try a vacation again and it's going much better this time. The kids both got their report cards this week and they are both doing very well. Breanna had all A's with a few B's, Josh's marks were good on the courses that he got marked on, but he didn't have marks on his year long courses, which are the ones that he's had trouble on. So I guess we'll just wait and see.

We did get a new family member last week, little Keta joined our family last Monday, just what we needed eh? Another kitty. LOL So I am now the crazy cat lady with my 4 cats. This one is my baby and I'm trying to turn him into a cuddly baby, the rest of my kitties don't like to cuddle, so we'll see how I make out.

A dull Saturday night

I love weekends, even when I don't do anything exciting, like this weekend. I didn't sleep well last night so I haven't done much of anything today, took Breanna to a birthday party and went to town to pick up some cold medicine for her, she's got a rotten cold, that I'm sure she'll eventually share with the rest of us.

Tonight we're just watching some TV and trying to keep warm, fall is sure in the air and I think we're going to have a very long winter, the mornings are cold and frosty already and Halloween isn't even here yet.

With it being Saturday, I can't help thinking back 3 weeks, not that I've thought of much else in the last 3 weeks. That was when I got the call from the hospital saying that Mom was there, and the nightmare began. As hellish as those few days were, I'd give anything to go back 3 weeks from right now, and be with her when she had the seizure, maybe it would all make more sense that way? I know it is what it is, but it still drives me, not knowing what started it, how was she right before and was anyone with her when it started. I just wish we could go back, but we can't, I know that, but I miss her so much. As much as she loved to drive me crazy, now she's driving me crazy by not being with me.

Baby it's cold outside!

I'm not ready for this at all! I don't like winter and as cold as it is tonight, I don't think winter is very far off. I should have been born in a warm climate! It's been quite a week...

So this is the week that I was supposed to be on vacation, my long awaited vacation. All I talked about last week was how much I couldn't wait, I would have 3 days at home all by myself the first of the week, before taking Josh for surgery on Thursday. This all went to hell Saturday night, all with a phone call from the hospital, telling me they had Mom there, she had come by ambulance after having a seizure at the home. I got dressed, called Aunt Barb and went to the hospital, scared of what I would find, I could tell by way the nurse talked that it wasn't good.

When I got there the Dr. came right out and asked if he should intubate if the need arose, I told him, no, she was DNR. Aunt Barb got there and we went in to see Mom, who wasn't awake and was groaning. I figured it was another stroke. By midnight she had come around a bit so we went home for the night after we got her settled in her room. I went back up on Sunday before she went for a CAT scan, then went to get her glasses from the home and waited for her to get back to the hospital. When she got back they said that there was nothing new on the scan, just the old stroke, but it takes a few days for a new stroke to show up on a CAT scan. By this time you could tell by looking at her that it was a stroke, her face was drooped on the right side. I went in to see her and was shocked by how much worse she looked, called Aunt Barb to come and then we talked to the Dr. who agreed with us, she wasn't going to get better. The rest of the family was called in and that night, we made the choice to take her off her IV, they told me that you actually feel less pain if you are dehydrated, then started her on pain meds when needed and just kept her comfortable. I stayed from that time on. Monday, she got worse as the time went by, she fought it all day and into the night, we begged and pleaded for her to stop fighting and go but you know Mom, she wasn't listening to what we had to say, she'd go in her own good time. At 1:20am Tuesday, Oct. 7th, my Mom passed away.

To answer the question I hear a lot, yes, I'm glad I stepped in last year when she had her stroke, we never spoke of those 6 years, I don't know if she remembered what went on or not, we never mentioned it, we just went on as if those 6 years didn't exist and I'm glad we did. I'm not saying the last year was perfect, far from it, she was very demanding, and lots of times, a pain in the ass, but, that was Mom, she had been like that all my life, why would she change now? LOL

RIP Mom, I miss you...

Hurricane Kyle

It's a stormy night out there tonight and the storm hasn't gotten here yet. I worked all weekend, not a bad weekend, yesterday it was crazy busy, today started out busy but as the rain started, the people stayed home. The weekend went by quite quickly thought. By this afternoon the rain had started and by the time we closed the wind had picked up. With Josh being a big weather watcher, we always pay quite a bit of attention to any storms that are coming our way and this one sounds like it's going to be the biggest one this year, or so far anyway. Kyle is about 4 hours off shore and is heading towards Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. The wind is pretty high and the lights have flickered a time or two, so Josh is finished his shower and Breanna is in there now, once she's finished I'll head in so at least that will be done if the power goes out. Amazing Race starts tonight so I really hope that the power stays on until after we get to see that. The bad thing about storms this time of year is that the leaves, for the most part, are still on the trees, so the wind can take a tree down pretty fast. I won't be impressed if the power goes out and stays out so that the kids don't have school, last winter and spring, it seemed every day I had off, I had at least one kid home with me, so you just watch and see if they are home on my day off. LOL

My tattoo is healing up, it's just starting to dry out and itch but I've been keeping it moist this time so I hope it doesn't scab and take color off with the scabs like it did on my back. I have very strange skin that scars pretty bad, I think that's why I have trouble getting them to heal. I'll be glad when it's all healed though, it looks pretty good and I still love it, just don't love the itching. LOL

I have to take some pictures of Josh's stomach later tonight and send them off to the bowel nurse at the IWK, he seems to have something on his incision that looks like a small cyst, I'm not sure what it is but I know it's not supposed to be there, it's going to really suck if we go in for his surgery on the 9th and they can't do it, we're both really looking forward to getting it over with so he can go back to somewhat normal activities.

Well I guess I'll go back to watching the news, that is all about Kyle, which strangely enough, 5 years to the day after Hurricane Juan, the last Hurricane that hit us hard, weird eh?

Another weekend half over

Here we are, the weekend half over, weekends just go so fast, we need a slow motion button I think. Today Donna-Leigh and I went to Bridgewater so she could get her new tattoo. It caused her extreme pain but looks great. I was going to get mine touched up but it's not healed enough so we are going back down on Thursday, my day off. The end of another summer

Today is Labour Day, the last day of the last long weekend of summer. I hate for summer to be over, I can see why some people get depressed in the fall, the short days, the cold, rain, then snow, ugg, I hate it all. I'm a spring/summer person, I would be very happy to never deal with winter again, unfortunately, I live in the wrong spot. So the kids go back to school on Thursday, that even seems to have come too soon. I know they are ready to go back, they are ready for the routine, they just aren't ready for the earlier bed times, getting up early and homework. LOL

I have changed jobs again, I'm heading back to the job I left in the spring, I wasn't happy where I have been, it's great to learn something new but a lot of the time I was bored, which makes for very long days. I'm looking forward to going back to work tomorrow, I've only been gone for 4 months so there's only a few things that I have to learn, things that have changed since I've been gone. I miss my buddies there and am very happy to be going back to them and hope to be there for a long, long time.

My first post

Well not my first post, but my first post on my new computer. I got my new laptop yesterday and am still trying to find my way around it. It has Vista on it and it's the first time I've used a computer with that on it, so it's a little different but I'm getting used to it. I was a little worried after hearing some of the stories about it but so far so good.

Breanna decided to bring home a cold and shared it with the rest of us so I didn't get to go see Mom today. She called and does understand that we can't come up if we are sick so I won't get there till next weekend I guess. I had hoped to go bring home the luggage, since all we have is up there but next weekend will work. Speaking of next weekend, it's going to be a busy one. Saturday I have to work and then we are supposed to go to a family reunion, and Dl is having a Passion Party at 7 so I have to be home for that, much more fun than a family reunion. Sunday I'll head up to see Mom and then we get stuff ready to go to the city on Wed.

It's a hot day here on the South Shore. A good beach day but here we are, trying to get some house work done, trying to catch up on blogging and selling a few things on eBay for the kids. This weekend is Privateer Days here in Liverpool, the rides, the booths, the parade, everyone looks forward to it every year. The parade was this morning, I was working but did get to watch it outside the store, Doug took pictures from where he and Josh watched it, we'll see if any of Breanna came out okay. When I got off work we went over to the rides, where Breanna had to take a few turns on every ride that would make me puke. LOL I stood as long as I could and then started the fight to get her home, she doesn't quite understand that my back was killing me. I came home, felt like a dirt bag from standing around over there, got in the shower, took some pills for my back and now I'm just planning to kick back and relax and do nothing, well, maybe there's a good movie on tonight. Tomorrow is my only day off this week, I have to run to Bridgewater to pick up a birthday gift, get a few things at Wal-Mart for Josh for camp, and maybe, just maybe, if I can convince my husband that 30 minutes won't kill him, go see my mother. So that's my very boring Privateer Days, first year I've missed Friday night at the bar and I hope the last, but after the day I had yesterday and being up early today and on my feet all day, I just don't have it in me to head to town tonight. Next weekend we'll be going out for Denise and Robby's wedding reception and the week after that, Jeff will be home, so I'm sure we'll get a night out while he's home.

A foggy day

Today was suppose to be nice and sunny and hot. It probably is, somewhere, just not here. When I went to town, you can't see across the harbour through the fog, and of course, living in Brooklyn, the fog takes our temperature down quite a bit. I've been fighting with Josh, trying to get him to study, since exams start next week, finally today I got fed up and took his lap top from him, now he has time to study. LOL It's hidden away and won't come out till he proves to me that he's ready for exams. Heck going into grade 10 should be a big deal, I would think he'd need to study, but you know, when you are 14, almost 15, you only have to do what you want, not what your parents think is best. *Insert big old eye roll here*

The end of another weekend

I wish I could say it was a nice spring one, but again, not so much. Yesterday it went from rain to sun and back and forth, all day. Today the sun was out but the temps aren't that great, with a high of only 10, this time of year we like it a lot warmer than that. I took Breanna and a friend out to White Point today to go swimming, Breanna won 2 passes at school for the Lodge, so after weeks of her driving me nuts to take her, I gave in. I sat by the pool with my book while they swam. We came home, had supper and now Doug and the kids are out painting the foundation, one of his jobs for this week while he's on vacation, luck guy!

Wet and Windy Day

It's raining cats and dogs, maybe some cows too. The kids are gone for the day with their other parents, Charles and Carolyn. They left at 7 this morning and won't be back until sometime tonight. No big plans for me today, if my back comes around a bit I might go try and clean out some of the junk from Josh's room, if not, it will just be a lazy day of reading and laundry. I'll have to go see Mom tomorrow, she's not doing too great but is such a mood that nobody wants to go see her, all she does is fight with you. She's been pretty good with me, but I always have one of the kids with me and I think that keeps her from fighting.

Debbie's kitty is missing, Toby, he came from Mamma kitty. Somehow he got out on Thursday night and hasn't come home. He's an indoor kitty and hasn't been outside since we caught him when he was a baby and went to live with Debbie. I was just talking to Jim and he says that Toby was on the doorstep last night but took off, so at least we know he's around, we just have to catch him and get him back in the house, where he belongs. Poor Debbie was so upset, pets are just like our children.

A sunny Saturday

It sure didn't start out that way thought. This morning when we got up it was cloudy and cold, we left to go see Mom and by the time we got to Bridgewater the sun was out and it was getting warmer. We had a visit, did some shopping and then home for supper. After supper Doug and took the kids out fishing, where we caught nothing, much like most fishing trips. So what's new, well the biggest of my news is that I have a new job, just finished my first week at Aliant/Bell, located in MacPherson's Deli, here in town. I have lots to learn and it's going to take a while, that's for sure, this old brain aint what it used to be for sure! We didn't get a new cell phone yet, but seeing as I'm selling them, probably a new one will be ours next week. I have it all picked out, just haven't had time to buy it yet!

A sleepy Saturday night

It's just past 10pm and I'm soon heading to bed. We went out last night with some friends that we haven't seen in forever, they are all home because they lost their Dad, so last night we got lots of the old 545 Privateer Squad and met up at Karaoke. Tomorrow I have to work from 12 till 5 and then I have Monday off.

What a yucky weekend

We woke up to rain and it's supposed to last all weekend. I had hopes of getting the yard cleaned up over the weekend but I guess that won't happen. We had a rough week with Josh, thought his shunt was broke and had one trip to the IWK, he had headaches all week but they seem to be getting better now. So I hope that little scare is all over with. We are making up for not having to go to the city for a year, we went once this week, we go on the 21st and the 27th of May. They couldn't book his ortho appointment for the same day as clinic so that is going to be 2 trips. Oh well, we had a good year without having to go, so a couple isn't that bad!

Today was Brian's memorial service, right at home, he would have loved it. The punch, the food and lots of people, it's not hard to tell how many people he touched with that big smile of his. It still doesn't seem real, that he's not here anymore.

It's been one heck of a week

So the week started with a day off, we took the kids and went to the city. While in the city I got a call that they had a place for Mom but I needed to move her the next day. So I called work to see if that was possible and it was, we got home from the city and went up to get Mom packed up and calm her down, she was pretty upset. Tuesday Aunt Barb and I took her to the new place, which included lots more tears on her part. I work Wed. and on Thurs. I got a call early in the morning to tell me my little buddy Brian, had passed away through the night, devastation. So it's been a hard few days, being at his house, without him being there, only 43, way too soon for him to leave us. Then today, I had to pick up the cat at the Vet's house and fell down the stairs, hurting my back, again. Not a good week people!

TGIF!

And boy, do I mean TGIF! It's been a very busy and long week. We were expecting some VIP's today at work so we've been working very hard to have the store looking top knotch and I think we did a great job. Being busy is good to make the time go but it's also pretty tiring, so I'm looking forward to the weekend with not much in the way of plans. I picked up some new books at work today and with a snow storm on the way tomorrow, I'm not planning much. I do have to go to Bridgewater at some point over the weekend to get Mom some t-shirts but other than that, I have no plans. Next weekend is my weekend to work, so I'm going to relax this weekend while I have the chance. It sucks that I work next weekend, my niece, Beth is planning to come home for the weekend so I won't get to spend as much time with her as I'd like but I'm sure we'll get some together time in there somewhere. I told Mom tonight that when I come up next Sat. at supper time, Bethy will be with me, she didn't understand at first but when she did, oh my, she got so excited that she yelled. LOL That's the reason I told her before hand, I thought she might freak out totally if I just walked in with Beth with me.

So here I am at 11:12pm trying to keep my eyes open so that Breanna can finish watching the movie she's watching, I may pass out before it's over. It's my weekend to work so I've been there last night and all day today, and will be there again tomorrow. My back was killing me when I got home and hasn't gotten much better since. It sucks that I'm working because, 1: The girls from work are gone away for the night, drinks, massages, and just lots of fun and 2: Donna-Leigh is moving tomorrow and it sucks that I can't help her.

When I get off tomorrow I'll head to the hospital to hang out with Mom for awhile, I didn't go up tonight because of my back and I was just too darn tired.

They are calling for a snow storm tonight, followed by rain for 3 days, why can't it just snow and that be the end of it, I hate it when we have the snow then rain, which every storm this winter has had. We haven't had a big storm that the kids can go out and play and go on their sleds, we just get snow, then rain, heck our driveway hasn't had to be plowed this year! Josh is looking forward to a snow day, exams start tomorrow, so he's had his nose in the books for most of the weekend, I hope he does okay, this last year in Jr High is an important one and there's no moving forward to High School unless all marks are above passing.

The end of the weekend

How, is it possible, that a weekend can fly by so fast? It's like you get off work on Friday and before you know it, it's Sunday night and you are running around getting everything ready to work on Monday. Kids lunches, clean clothes, arggg, it just never ends. I need a vacation and I need it now! LOL And since we only won $2.00 last night on the lottery, that vacation isn't going to happen any time soon.

We went to the city yesterday, just to get a way for a day and of course, before the day was over, we got a call that I needed to go up and sit with Mom because she was upset, needless to say, I couldn't go right away, it was 2 hours before I got there and she was still crying. Her nerves are very bad right now so in turn, mine ain't that great. There's just so much stress of not having a minute to call my own, I work, if I try and come home from work, I get a call that I need to go to the hospital and the rest of the days I go right to the hospital when I get off, it's not a fun life, that's for sure.

What a night!

We're in the middle of a good old nor'easter, not as bad as we usually get, but we're getting some snow and the wind is howling like crazy! I had the day off but had to get up and get going to my math course for work. After that, home to do some housework and then my math homework, which I haven't quite finished because I'm not understanding the last question, so I'll check on that tomorrow and then finish it up tomorrow night, so I can pass it in on Wed.

Doug is all curled up on the bed sound asleep, he's coming down with a cold and is feeling miserable, Breanna is playing some Guitar Hero and Josh, well, I can't see him from here, he should have his nose in the books with exams 2 weeks away, but he's probably on the computer. LOL Like mother, like son!
